Are you planning to get diamond jewelry? If your answer is “YES”, you need to proceed with caution. Gifting a diamond ring for women which is made of fake diamond, to your special someone, can have damaging consequences later on.
How do you identify whether the diamond attached to the diamond ring which you are buying is real or fake? It is not as difficult as it sounds, though. Keep a watchful eye on these characteristics to find out whether or not the diamond in the piece of jewelry you are buying is real or fake:
1. Hardness: The hardness of diamond enables it to resist a heavy impact without breaking into two or more pieces. To test the piece of diamond in the ring you are buying, drop it and see whether it breaks into pieces or not. Be sure that you are harbouring a fake piece if it breaks.
2. Difference in Colors: Rarest diamonds usually have one out of these three colorspink, blue or yellow. When buying a rare diamond of a color other than these three, do not forget to ask for an explanation for the same from the jeweler.
3. Real diamond can scratch anything: Because diamonds are hard, they can scratch anything without any substantial damage to their surface. Before buying a diamond ring, try scratching the diamond on a glass surface and see whether or not it makes a scratch. If it does not break even after making a scratch mark on the glass surface, the piece is genuine.
4. Cannot be seen through: You cannot see anything through a piece of diamond. Put a piece of printed paper, and see whether or not you are able to read the printed words from the other side to ensure the genuineness of your diamond.
5. Grey shade: One of the highlights of a real diamond is that it reflects light with grey shades. The reflection of a shade of any other colour indicates that the diamond in question may be a fake one.
6. Bad conductor of heat: Like other non-metals, diamonds are also bad conductors of heat. Try heating up the piece of diamond you have. You could decide on whether your piece is real or fake depending upon whether or not you feel hot after heating it.
7. Scratches: Due to hardness, it is difficult to make scratches on the surface of a diamond. Take a careful look at the surface of the diamond part in a ringscratches or ruffles on the surface means you probably have a fake diamond.
8. Joints: Checking all the joints of a diamond is the best way to ensure whether or not the piece you have is actually a blend of real and fake pieces.
